As many as 43 people, mostly labourers, have died after a fire broke out at a luggage factory in Delhi on Sunday morning. More than 30 fire tenders have been at the site located in Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road. There were at least 50 labourers sleeping inside the factory when the fire broke out at around 5 AM on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “The fire in Delhi’s Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road is extremely horrific. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Wishing the injured a quick recovery. Authorities are providing all possible assistance at the site of the tragedy.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “V v tragic news. Rescue operations going on. Firemen doing their best. Injured are being taken to hospitals.”
Those rescued from inside the factory were taken to RML Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital.
The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory asking commuters to use the Rani Jhansi Flyover near New Delhi Railway Station since the road below is closed due to today’s fire.
