Actor Pooja Bhatt has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his politics of hate with a cryptic social media post. Pooja, who’s known to express her opinion fiercely, said that she will not consider anyone her leader, who ‘lies’ and ‘attempts to instill fear’ in her through the politics of ‘hate.’

She wrote, “No matter what the outcome of the elections, I will not consider my leader to be anyone who lies to me, attempts to intimidate or instil fear in me if I question that lie and governs through division & hate. No one can force ownership on anyone.Even if they crown themselves king.”

Pooja’s scathing criticism came on the day 600 Bollywood stars including Naseeruddin Shah, Anurag Kashyap, Konkana Sen Sharma, Manav Kaul,  Lillete Dubey and Ratna Pathak Shah signed a joint petition urging people to vote against the BJP in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

The signatories said that the BJP ‘has given a free rein to Hindutva goons to indulge in politics of hate and violence.’

Earlier 100 independent filmmakers had also issued a similar appeal, urging voters to remove the BJP from power to save India’s democracy. This was followed by over 200 writers including Arundhati Roy, Amitav Ghosh, Nayantara Sahgal, Jeet Thayil, Romila Thapar and Vivek Shanbhag posting a joint appeal against the politics of hate.

The BJP under Modi and its president Amit Shah have often come under condemnation for promoting the politics of hate to further their political agenda.

This year’s Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases and the counting is scheduled for 23 May.
