Police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested a doctor for allegedly raping a woman patient repeatedly over a year in Miranpur town in UP. The accused, identified as Sajid Hasan, had recorded his acts act and then used it to blackmail the victim of Kaithora village.

Quoting Miranpur police station SHO Manoj Choudhary, a report by PTI said that Hasan was arrrested on Sunday.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim, Hasan had raped her a year ago when she had gone for a medical checkup at his clinic, and filmed the act.

The accused had since been blackmailing the victim, 38, by threatening to upload the video on social media, it said.

It is the second such case in the district. Last week, a doctor was arrested at Budhana town for allegedly keeping a 13-year-old girl confined in his clinic for three days before raping her at a village. The girl had managed to escape from her confinement and report the matter to her father. The doctor, in this case, was identified as Sonu Verma.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s father, Verma was arrested and his clinic was sealed. Some objectionable material was also seized from the clinic, PTI had quoted a local police officer as saying.

Data maintained by the UP police department had shown earlier this year that the number of FIRs registered under ‘crime against women’ provisions had gone up by 24% between 1 January and 31 March than in the corresponding period of 2017 and 2016.
