Joe Biden will become the 46th US president, defeating Donald Trump decisively. Joe Biden has won 273 electoral college votes after Pennsylvania was declared in his favour. The Democratic Presidential nominee needed just 270 votes to secure the presidency, but he has now won 273 seats and could take his tally beyond the 300-mark.
Kamala Harris will become the first female and first Black vice president of South Asian origin for 243 years.
Biden is also leading in Georgia, Nevada and Arizona and is all set to take his tally to potentially beyond 300.
Biden was trailing in the early hours of the counting in Pennsylvania by nearly 7 lakh votes, but as the mail-in votes began to be counted, his tally increased sharply. Pennsylvania was crucial for Biden’s election as the new President of the US even though he led in Georgia, Arizona and Nevada since the state gave 20 electoral votes.
The news of Biden’s victory created unprecedented scenes on the US TV channels. Recalling how Trump had created the US society into a hate factory, one black panelist broke down on CNN.
