With 10 years of anti-incumbency, the BJP is in no mood to let its control over Delhi’s civic bodies go. The saffron party has made its intention abundantly clear that it wants to win the three civic bodies at any cost.

The party has deployed several central government ministers with even sacked AAP minister Sandeep Kumar being roped in by a candidate to campaign for the BJP. Now the party candidates have expressed their desire to invite Yogi Adityanath and Devendra Fadnavis, two chief ministers from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra for their last-minute help.

The campaigning for elections to the 272 wards of three municipal corporations will end on April 21 evening but the schedules for the two leaders are yet to be finalised.

The two “youth icons”, as many party candidates believe them to be, are in “heavy demand”, especially among young candidates to canvass support for them in their wards, said a senior Delhi BJP leader.

The two are among the list of star campaigners but their schedules have not been finalised, party spokesman Navin Kumar said.

The candidates have been asking for Yogi and Fadnavis to visit their wards and attract young voters as the campaign picks up for the April 23 polls, party leaders say.

Most of the star campaigners are likely to come to the national capital beginning from April 19 and Yogi and Fadnavis are also expected to participate in it, they said.

“We are trying to arrange visits of all the star campaigners including CMs Adityanath and Fadnavis. So far, approval from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Amit Shah has been received,” Kumar said.

The BJP is pitted against Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in a triangular contest in three municipal corporations.
