At least two women attempted to commit suicide outside the official residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Sunday alleging rape by a BJP MLA.
The woman in question told news agency ANI that she was raped by a BJP MLA and his accomplices a year ago adding that no action was being taken despite her complaints. She said, “I was raped. I have been going from pillar to post for one year but no one listened to me. I want all of them arrested otherwise I will kill myself. I had even gone to the CM to no result. When we lodged FIR we were threatened.”
The woman’s daughter too alleged that she too was allegedly harassed. She said, “I feel ashamed to even share what happened to us. They came and misbehaved with me on the day my father was not at home as he had gone out to buy medicines for my grandmother. They came and forcibly open the doors of our house and misbehaved with us.”
Rajiv Krishan, ADG Lucknow, told the news agency that the victim had spoken about two incidents and his team had launched an investigation. He said, “The aggrieved party is essentially making two allegations. The first allegations is around seven months old, when the local MLA had allegedly sexually assaulted her. The second allegation is about an incident that took place around 10 days ago in which she alleged that the police had acted with biases.”
Krishan said that the cops had taken serious note of both the complaints. The MLA in question is identified as Kuldeep Singh Sengar, BJP legislator from Unnao. Denying allegations, Sengar told ANI, “This is a pre-planned incident. There was an incident in their family, case was registered. Police saved two innocent people, being made scapegoat by them. These people thought I helped them and they haven’t left any platform to defame me. I request administration to probe this well and punish the real culprit.”
