A document released by the UAE’s ministry of health terms the reason for Sridevi’s death as ‘accidental drowning.’ Some media reports said that Boney Kapoor had found her body inside the bathtub.

Dubai Police too said that Sridevi fell down due to loss of consciousness. It said, “Following the completion of post-mortem analysis, #DubaiPolice today stated that the death of Indian actress #Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment’s bathtub following loss of consciousness.”

The Dubai Police added that they had transferred the case to #Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases. There are also reports that cops are checking the phone records of Sridevi.

Dubai-based newspaper Khaleej Times reported that Sridevi’s husband had flown back from Mumbai and gone to her room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel at around 5.30 PM, on Saturday to “surprise” her with the dinner. The couple chatted for around 15 minutes before they decided to have dinner.

Sridevi, according to media reports, then proceeded to washroom. Boney decided to check on her when she did not return from the washroom even after 15 minutes. The Khaleej Times report further added that she was immediately rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai.

The paper added that social workers were working with the family members to complete the procedure of repatriation – the cancellation of passport, issuance of death certificate among others.

Sridevi had made her Bollywood debut as a child artist with Julie. She entered Bollywood as an adult actor after having established her credentials in Tamil cinema. Solva Sawan in 1978 was her first Hindi film in a leading role. Her next film was Himmatwala, which gave her wide recognition.

She acted in several commercially hit films including Tohfa, Chandni, Mr India, Nagina, Chaalbaz among others.
