BJP President Amit Shah on Wednesday met Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit and her husband Dr. Sriram Madhav Nene as part of the saffron party’s ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ campaign.
The official reason stated is that the campaign is aimed at informing key people about the achievement of the Centre’s Narendra Modi government. However, the analysts feel that this is been designed to have as many influential people on board ahead of Lok Sabha elections in 2019 as possible. After meeting Madhuri and her husband, an elated Shah said, “It was pleasant meeting the noted bollywood actress @MadhuriDixit and Dr. Shriram Nene as a part of “Sampark For Samarthan” initiative at their home in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Have discussed the achievements and path breaking initiatives of PM @narendramodi govt in last 4 years.”

However, Shah, a divisive figure in the Indian politics, meeting a popular Bollywood queen did not go down well with the latter’s fans. The popular actor faced nasty trolling as soon her her photos and videos with Shah were shared on social media.
On Facebook, user Parvati Goenka wrote, “Another opportunist Bollywood actor who never raise her voice on Country’s various issue in the current regime nevertheless ready to campaign for BJP.” “I’m disgusted!,” wrote a user Anuradha Subramanian. Another user Hisham Osmani wrote, “She’s a Maharashtrian Brahmins & they are mostly Sanghi only. If she would have been a Dalit or a OBC he would have thought a thousand times to visit her place.”
There were other users who detected a potential comedy into Shah’s meeting with Madhuri. One user Akshay Shinde on Facebook wrote, “It seems that they have forced their way into their house….and Dr. Nene is afraid and clueless about what’s happening there!!” User Solomon Raj Nanda wrote, “Madhuri dixit and lata mangeskar are now the new economist in the country, now Rajan will be soon entering to bollywood so no need to discuss with him about the achievements (sic).”
A lot of Bollywood fans also appeared angry with Madhuri for her refusal to take a stand on several burning social issues recently including the gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua.
When Shah met Madhuri and her husband in Mumbai on Wednesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too was present. Also present were several other local BJP leaders. Shah too faced his own share of trolling on Twitter, where users felt that Sampark for Samarthan campaign was a sign of BJP’s nervousness over losing 2019 elections.
