Guha had stated that Gauri’s murder was a result of the climate of hate and intolerance promoted by the current (BJP) government.

The notice said, ” “Your deliberate, false and calculated statement against our client’s organization has caused great anguish in the minds of thousands of its members and sympathisers.”

The noted author of ‘India after Gandhi’ had also said that India was becoming a mirror image of Bangladesh and Pakistan, where writers were killed for what they said.

Guha, however, is not the only one to have co-related Lankesh’s murder to the BJP, RSS ideology. BJP MLA in Karnataka, Jeevaraj, had said that Lankesh would still have been alive had she not written against the BJP and RSS.

Guha has taken to twitter to express his first reaction to the legal notice. His tweets read, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee said the answer to a book or article can only be another book or article. But we no longer live in Vajpayee’s India.”

His another tweet read, “In India today, independent writers and journalists are harassed, persecuted, and even killed. But we shall not be silenced.”

Lankesh was gunned down by unknown assailant last week as she tried to enter her house in Bangalore. She was known for her critical views against the right-wing Hindutva ideologies.

Karnataka government has already begun investigating her murder, which was widely celebrated by the supporters of the BJP including those who Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed on Twitter.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had taken to Twitter to express his disgust over the celebration of Lankesh’s murder. He was later trolled by his own supporters.
