The mysterious disappearance of one more witness in Asaram rape case has left the family of Rahul Sachan in Uttar Pradesh shocked.
The self-proclaimed godman is currently langushing in Jodhpur jail for allegedly raping a minor.
Rahul from Lucknow has been missing for over a month now despite there being two constable deputed for his security.
Sachan is a witness in two cases filed against Asaram in Jodhpur and Ahmedabad and another case against Narayan Sai in Surat.
He was provided two constable for security after a ‘follower’ of Asaram attacked him with knife outside a Jodhpur court, where he had gone to record his statement in May.
According to family, Rahul’s father is severely ill but he’s refusing to travel for treatment. A family member said that they were living in extreme fear and were worried about the safety of Rahul.
This is not the first time witnesses in Asaram case have disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
Five witnesses have either been killed or attacked since the the self styled godman was put behind bars in rape cases.
In May, Mahendra Chawla, the prime witness in the sexual exploitation case against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, was shot at in Haryana.
According to a Dailymail.co.uk report, Chawla, a former secretary of Asaram (between 1998 and 2005) had made a number of startling revelations about the father-son duo regarding alleged wrongdoing in their ashrams. He accused Asaram of working as a financier and his son of exploiting female followers. He also alleged that one of Asaram’s caretakers, Monica, was assigned the job of supplying girls to him.
In Jnuary, another witness in a rape case against Asaram was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. Police said Akhil Gupta, 35, was shot by unknown persons on his way home. He was the second witness to be killed in the case after Amrut Prajapati, a former Asaram aide who was shot dead in June last year in Gujarat.
Gupta was a cook and a personal aide of Asaram Bapu, who has been in jail since August, 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a schoolgirl.
In March, a key witness in the Asaram rape case was attacked by unidentified assailants in Surat city.
According to the police, the 40-year-old witness in the case, Rakesh Patel, who had a video-shooting and photography business, was returning home in Paal locality, when two motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted his bike near his home.
If that is not all, in 2013, the family of the girl who accused Asaram Bapu of sexually assaulting her claimed that they had received death threats from followers of Asaram.
In October 2013, the then Surat Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shobha Bhutada filed a complaint stating that she had been receiving threatening calls from supporters of Asaram.
