Bollywood actor and BJP MP, Vinod Khanna has died in Mumbai. He was also the BJP MP from Punjab’s Gurdaspur, which he had represented four times.
Khanna was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation hospital on March 31 with severe dehydration.
Khanna breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma, says the hospital according to news agency ANI.
Khanna had acted many Bollywood blockbusters. His acting in Amar Akbar Anthony and Qurbani continue to remain the highlights of his career. His other notable films were Hera Pheri, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Parvarish, Dayavan and Jurm were also memorable.
His pairing with Amitabh Bachchan in 70s and 80s was widely appreciated with he making his presence felt as much as the former.
The actor made his acting debut in 1968 with “Man Ka Meet.”
More recently, the actor-politician was had acted in Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer Dilwale in 2015.
Khanna was born was born on 6 October, 1946 and he acted in 141 films between 1968 and 2013. He married Geetanjali in 1971 and is survived by two sons, Akshay Khanna and Rahul Khanna, both actors in Bollywood.
His co-star from Amar Akbar Anthony, Rishi Kapoor, tweeted saying he will always miss ‘Amar.’
Actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha tweeted, “Vinod Khanna, truly “Mere Apne”, one of my most admired and loved personalities, the supremely handsome & talented superstar is no more. Right from films to politics, Vinod Khanna & I sailed together and he leaves behind an entire generation & more of fans, admirers.”
Last month a photo of Vinod Khanna in a frail condition had gone viral on social media platforms. According to reports, the former Bollywood star has reportedly been battling cancer for quite sometime and the life-threatening disease has made him complete unrecognisable.
“Dad was hospitalised on Friday for severe dehydration. The situation was quickly brought under control, he’s doing much better and the doctors are looking to discharge him soon,” Rahul Khannahad told PTI.
Khanna, who is also a BJP MP from Punjab’s Gurdaspur, is currently undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
“Our family is most grateful for the extraordinary care he’s been receiving at the hospital and we are touched by all the good wishes pouring in,” he added.
Amitabh Bachchan too had posted a cryptic tweet suggesting that all was not well with Khanna.
His tweet said, “Strange is it not, that the passing of the near and dear and colleagues, coerces one to start questioning one’s own longevity!”
