In a tragic incident, at least eight people were killed and several injured after as many as 50 vehicles piled up on each other on the Rohtak-Rewari highway in Haryana due to dense fog.
The incident took place on Monday morning near a flyover in Haryana’s Jhajjar area. According to police seven out of the eight killed are women, while the condition of 10 more continue to be critical. A school bus is reported to have been involved in the accident.
All eight killed in the accident were reportedly travelling from their village in Najafgarh in the outer Delhi. They were on their way to take part in a condolence meet. The accident on Rohtak-Rewari highway caused a two-kilometer-long traffic jam.
The Haryana government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the family members of those killed and Rs 1 lakh for injured. Haryana Minister OP Dhankar, who visited the spot of the accident, was quoted by news agency ANI, “Compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs will be given to the kin of the deceased, Rs. 1 lakh to those severely injured and Rs.50,000 to those with minor injuries.”
In a separate incident, according to Hindustan Times, former Haryana health minister Satyanarayan Lathar was killed in Jind after an unidentified vehicle hit him when he was walking home from his petrol pump.
