Do you remember Tina Dabi, who shot to fame in 2016 when she topped that year’s IAS exams? The same year, Jammu and Kashmir’s Athar Aamir-ul Shafi Khan had secured the 2nd rank. While Dabi is a Dalit, Khan, who had secured second rank in the civil services exam in 2016 hails from Kashmir.
Both got married in Kashmir over the weekend after being in a relationship for over a year. Dabi and Khan exchanged wedding vows on Saturday at Pahlgam Club. The wedding function was attended by close relatives and friends. They drove to Devepora Mattan – Khan’s ancestral village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag- after the wedding party.
Janta Ka Reporter had exclusively reported in November 2016 about Dabi being in a relationship with fellow IAS topper, Khan.
Later, speaking to Times of India, Dabi had said, “We met in the morning and by evening Aamir was at my door. Uske liye pehli nazar mein pyaar ho gaya (For him, it was love at first sight)… But I thank Aamir every day for his perseverance. He is a wonderful person.”
Dabi had said that she could only reciprocate Aamir’s love in August. Dabi had said that she wasn’t overly bothered about what people thought of their inter-religion love.
She had said, “We are in love and very happy. But I must admit that I get very disturbed when I read stuff about us. We have stopped googling our names and reading news about ourselves. I think it is a small price to pay for being in the public eye.”
Militant Hindutva outfit, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, had written to the parents of Dabi, reminding them that the latter’s decision to marry Khan amounted to Love Jihad.
Dabi’s new stardom had caused her a few embarrassing moments with social media users attributing fake messages to her. In one such message from a fake Facebook account, she was reported to have paid rich tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him her inspiration. Dabi had later rubbished these messages.
