LIVE: More than 600 Israelis killed in Hamas attack, over 2,000 injured; 2 Israeli tourists killed by Egyptian police

The death toll in yesterday’s Hamas attack has risen to 600 with more than 2,000 injured. According to Israeli local media reports, at least 100 Israelis are being held captive by Hamas fighters.

A report by the BBC said that the fighting between the Israeli military and Hamas fighters continues in Israeli territory near Gaza.

Elsewhere, Palestinian authorities say that Israeli air strikes have killed at least 313 people in the Gaza Strip, with almost 2,000 wounded.

The conflict has taken a new turn after it emerged that a policeman in Egypt had shot two Israelis dead in Alexandria.

Hamas fighters had stunned Israel and its western allies on Saturday by launching a wave of rocket attacks and storming into Israel, in the biggest escalation in decades.
