Wrestler Ravi Dahiya wins second silver medal for India after 4-7 defeat to ROC’s Zavur Uguev in men’s Freestyle 57 kg final

India’s Ravi Dahiya won the silver medal in the men’s Freestyle 57 kg final wrestling competition at the Tokyo Olympics after he lost to Russian Olympic Committee’s Zavur Uguev 4-7.

This is India’s second silver medal at the Olympic games, taking the country’s overall medal tally to five. Earlier Mirabai Chanu had won a silver medal in the weightlifting event. This was followed by boxer Lovlina Borgohain, shuttler PV Sindhu and the men’s hockey team securing bronze medals.

The Indian women’s hockey team is set to play their bronze medal match and could add one more medal to India’s overall tally. They had gone down 1-2 to Argentina in the semi-final.

Reacting to Dahiya’s Olympic glory, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Great going, Congratulations on wrestling your way to the #Silver.” 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Ravi Kumar Dahiya is a remarkable wrestler! His fighting spirit and tenacity are outstanding. Congratulations to him for winning the Silver Medal at #Tokyo2020. India takes great pride in his accomplishments.”
