South Africa on Friday defeated Pakistan in their World Cup match against Pakistan in a thrilling contest.
Batting first, Pakistan could only manage 270 before being all out in 46.4 overs. Skipper Babar Azam made 50 while Saud Shaeek was out for 52. Shadab Khan scored 43 important runs from 36 overs to take Pakistan to a respectable total.
Tabraiz Shamsi was the most successful bowler for South Africa as he claimed four wickets.
South Africa began their run chase on an aggressive note as Shaheen Afridi was hit for four fours in his first over. However, the match became a thriller after South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals even though they kept the required run rate under check.
Aiden Markram was the top scorer with a knock of 91 runs but his departure turned the match into a close contest as Pakistan began to fancy their chances.
South Africa eventually managed to pull off a victory by one wicket. Shamsi was declared Player Of The Match.
Afridi finished with an impressive spell of 3-45 in 10 overs. Muhammad Wasim, Haris Rauf and Usama Mir shared two wickets each.
