Batting first, the Netherlands made 245-8 in 43 overs. Skipper Scott Edwards was the top scorer with a knock of 78 from 69 balls.

In reply, the Proteas could only manage 207, losing the match by 38 runs. Aside from David Miller, who made 43, and Keshav Masharaj, 40 from 37 balls, no other South African batter was able to face the Dutch bowling attack effectively.

South African batting collapse started after the 8th over of the match when they lost four wickets within a span of three overs and eight runs. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals before being restricted to 207.

Edwards was declared Player Of The Match for his gutsy batting display.

Earlier, the defending champions, England, had suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Afghanistan.

Today’s match was reduced to 43 overs due to rains that caused a delay in the start of the game in Himachal Pradesh, the hilly Indian state in the north.
