BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Thursday thanked Indian captain Virat Kohli for his contribution to cricket after the latter announced his decision to step down as the T20 International skipper. Little did Shah realise that he would once again face brutal trolling from netizens, who mocked him for his English once again.

Kohli on Wednesday had taken to social media to announce that he would step down as the T20 captain after the World Cup in October. He wrote, “I have been fortunate enough to not only represent India but also lead the Indian Cricket Team to my utmost capability. I thank everyone who has supported me in my journey as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team. I couldn’t have done it without them – the boys, the support staff, the selection committee, my coaches and each and every Indian who prayed for us to win.”

Implying that he was finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the workload of captaining the Indian national team all three formats, Kohli said, “Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian Team in Test and ODI Cricket. I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward.”

Kohli, who recently led India in the four-match Test series against England concluded, “Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain: after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October. I have also spoken to the secretary Mr. Jay Shah and the President of BCCI Mr. Sourav Ganguly along with all the selectors about the same. I will continue to serve Indian Cricket and the Indian Team to the best of my ability.”

Reacting to his announcement, Shah tweeted, “Thanks @imVKohli for your contribution as the #TeamIndia captain. As a young talent the focus and determination you have showed as the captain is unmatched. The most impressive aspect was the way of maintaining balance between captaincy and individual performance.”

His tweet did not go down well with Twitterati with many mocking him for his English once again as they sarcasically asked him to read his English tweet in a short video. Shah had faced widespread mocking last week after he released a short video message on the Team India squad for the T20 World Cup. Shah, the son of Home Minister Amit Shah, was mocked for his English.

Thursday was no different as Twitterati began to poke fun at Shah once again.

Kohli will lead India in the next month’s T20 World Cup with former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni brought in to become India’s mentor.
