Italy and Denmark have qualified for the Euro 2020 quarter-final after beating Austria and Wales respectively.

Italy defeated Austria 2-1 in a closely contested match, which went into extra time after both the teams ended the first 90 minutes of the match in a goalless draw. Italy took the lead in 95th minute of the match, thanks to the goal from Federico Chiesa. Matteo Pessina increased the lead to 2-0 in the 105th minute.

Austria reduced the deficit with Sasa Kalajdzic’s brave header in the 114th minute. This was Italy’s first goal since October 2020 in an international match. Italy had not conceded any goals for 1168 minutes covering 12 games.

As for Denmark, they were brutal against Wales as they pulled off an emphatic 4-0 win to set up a quarter-final clash with either the Netherlands or the Czech Republic next Saturday.

Kasper Dolberg scored twice for Denmark, first in the 27th minute before strike his second in the 48th minute of the match. Joakim Maehle scored the third goal for Denmark in 88th minute before Martin Braithwaite netted the fourth in the added time. This was immediately after Wales substitute Harry Wilson was shown a straight red card for a foul against Maehle in the dying seconds of the match.

Wales have become the first team to receive two red cards in a single edition of the European Championship since Russia and Switzerland in 2004, reported the BBC.

Italy’s opponent in the last eight could be either Belgium or Portugal.

In today’s Euro games, the Netherlands will take on the Czech Republic followed by Belgium and Portugal locking horns with each other for a place in the quarter-final.
