The much awaited trust vote took place in Uttarakhand assembly on Tuesday as Congress claimed that Harish Rawat had won.
Rawat reportedly received 34 votes and only 27, believed to be all BJP MLAs, voted against him.
The votes, in sealed envelope, will be opened by Supreme Court on Wednesday, when the results are likely to be announced officially.
Rawat’s government was controversially dismissed by Narendra Modi government at the Centre leading to huge political controversy in India.
The Congress party had moved Uttarakhand High Court against the decision. The HC, while quashing the central government’s decision, had slammed the Centre for dismissing an elected government.
The Centre then moved to Supreme Court, which allowed the trust vote to take place after lifting the President’s Rule for two hours.
The reports of a Congress win inside the assembly have sent social media into a frenzy BJP critics slamming the central government for what termed was an unconstitutional decision.
The dominating theme of social media conversation was criticism for Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP must be – at least ought to be – asking itself today what all this fiasco in Uttarakhand really brought it? Nothing, it would seem.

When it comes to BJP, getting legislators from other parties is not called horse trading. It is just 'political gharwapsi' . #Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand horse trading is a mockery of democracy. The BJP believes in grabbing power at any cost. https://t.co/ri1NybEXxN
