Rajeev Shukla has been a popular face with the Indian cricket board with him holding several key roles within the cricket administration in India for several years. He’s currently the chairman of the Indian Premier League.
And yet when he tweeted congratulating the splendid victory in the semi-final of the Women’s World Cup against the holders Australia, he was brutally trolled for his lack of awareness in cricket.
Shukla’s tweet (now deleted) had said, “Congratulations to @BCCIWomen team for making it into the Champions Trophy Final by beating Australia. Great knock by @ImHarmanpreet.”
What the veteran cricket administrator did not realise that the Indian women’s cricket team had created history in the World Cup and not the Champions Trophy.
Thanks to the knock of 171 by Harmanpreet Kaur in the semi-final that India had comprehensively outclassed the mighty Australia, which alongside England and New Zealand is the only team to have won the World Cup since its inception in 1973.
An embarrassed Shukla later sought to redeem himself by posting two new tweets and correctly stating that the women stars’ achievement had come in the World Cup and not the Champions Trophy.
His two tweets read, “Congrats @BCCIWomen cricket team for the comprehensive victory against Australia #WomensWorldCup2017 . Well played @ImHarmanpreet. Best Wishes to @BCCIWomen cricket team for the #WomensWorldCup2017 final match. A defining moment for Indian Cricket @M_Raj03 #BCCI.”
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter.

I hope you are sure this was #cricket or #hockey? or a steet match in @INCIndia office – people must be bored waiting for #rahul anyway?

It's high time @ShuklaRajiv to quit the BCCI. It's really incredible how such persons are at helm of cricket administration.
