Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday evening visited the family of a girl, who was stabbed 35 times to death before announcing the help of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family.
19-year-old Meenakshi was brutally killed by a brother-duo in Delhi’s Anand Parbat area on Thursday while the family complained of police’s inaction. According to the victim’s family, the alleged killers, now in police’s custody, had attempted to molest her even in the past and threatened to throw acid on her face. They claimed that despite complaining to police, the law enforcing agency had refused to take any action.
On Saturday, Kejriwal tweeted describing Meenakshi’s death as appalling and launched scathing attack against the prime minister Narendra Modi. He said the Delhi police was under the prime minister and he must do something to improve the deteriorating law and order situation of Delhi or “hand over the control of Delhi Police to Delhi government.”

Earlier on Saturday, Kejriwal’s cabinet colleague, Satyendra Jain, wrote a hard-hitting letter to Delhi police commissioner asking ‘pointed questions.’
In his letter Jain asked, “What has changed in Delhi Police post Nirbhaya? Why no FIR was registered despite repeated complaints from the victim? What’s being done to fix the problem?”
The Delhi government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
