India name squad for Test series against New Zealand; Virat Kohli to miss first Test; Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah rested

The Indian cricket board on Friday announced the squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand to be played in Kanpur and Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested while Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team in the first Test. Virat Kohli will return to the side as skipper for the second Test.

India’s Test squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), KS Bharat (wicket-keeper), Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Md. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

India will also play three T20 internationals against New Zealand before the Test series. Rohit Sharma has been named the team captain for the T20 series.

New Zealand are currently in the UAE, where they will face Australia in the T20 World Cup final.

New Zealand beat England in the first semi-final, while Australia pulled off a thrilling win against Pakistan in the second semi-final on Thursday.
