BJP legislator, OP Sharma, on Thursday was suspended from the Delhi assembly for two sessions for using derogatory words against the Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Alka Lamba.
According to PTI, AAP MLA, Bhavna Gaur, a member of the Ethics Committee, today moved a proposal in the House seeking action against him, saying he did not show any regret over his comments. Following a discussion over the proposal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he should be given one more chance to apologise for his remarks.
On his part, Sharma said, “My intention was not to hurt Lamba as she is like my sister, but if she felt offended I express regret over it”.
The assembly’s Ethics Committee had on Wednesday recommended his disqualification from Delhi Assembly on alleged sexist remarks he made against Lamba.
On Tuesday, the Ethics Committee of Delhi Assembly had submitted its report on Sharma’s conduct in relation to his alleged derogatory remarks about Lamba.
The Ethics Committee had reportedly called Sharma to apologise but he refused prompting it to recommend his expulsion from the Delhi Assembly. The Committee found him a ‘habitual offender’ who had ‘temper issues’ adding that such behaviour could not be tolerated.
Sharma, for his part, alleged that since the Ethics Committee had all AAP MLAs, he wouldn’t be surprised ‘if they expel me.’
In November last year, Sharma was briefly suspended from the Assembly for calling Lamba ‘raat bhar ghoomne waali (one who roams around all through the night).”
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had also asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to expel Sharma from the party.
In December last year, the Delhi Assembly had passed a resolution to recover Rs. 18,560 from his salary towards the cost incurred in replacing a mike he had damaged during a Budget session in June 2015 and had warned him not to repeat such action.
The news of Sharma’s expulsion became a subject of intense conversation on twitter, where users were quick to poke fun at him.
Here is a snapshot of twitter conversation:

Given the Modi government's history of dimwitted decisions, I expect BJP MLA OP Sharma to be Minister of Women and Child Development soon.
