Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reportedly placed himself in self-isolation after his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, tested positive for COVID-19. The Delhi CM’s wife too has quarantined herself at her official government house.
The news of Kejriwal’s wife testing positive came hours after the Delhi government announced a weeklong lockdown in the national capital. The city has borne the brunt of the new wave of the coronavirus as the healthcare system collapsed.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had tested positive for COVID-19. Kejriwal was quick to wish a speedy recovery. He had tweeted, “I pray for ur good health and speedy recovery.”
Last year, Kejriwal had shown corona symptoms but his test had late come negative.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s deputy, Manish Sisodia, has said that 2700 new beds will be added in Delhi hospitals within the next 4-5 days. His announcement came amidst many complaining of shortages in hospital beds even as the government mobile app claimed beds were available.
Sisodia urged people to not panic but to follow the lockdown properly. He stated that the Kejriwal government has increased the beds in the last 2 weeks expansively, the number of covid-19 beds in Delhi increased from 6071 to 19101.
