Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has started following the Congress and its tall leaders on Twitter in the recent few days prompting social media users to speculate the reason.
Among those who the senior Bachchan has followed recently are Congress President Rahul Gandhi and the party’s official Twitter handle, P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Ahmed Patel, Manish Tewari, Ashok Gehlot, Ajay Maken, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot and CP Joshi.
Not so long ago, the Congress had thanked Bachchan for following the party on the microblogging site. Tewari, who was the information and broadcasting minister in the Manmohan Singh’s cabinet, too had thanked the megastar for the follow on Twitter.
In his tweet, Tewari had written, “Thank you Sh Amitabh Bachan for following me and it is my privilege to follow the icon of Indian cinema who we grew up watching first-day first-show every new release. Those days in late 70s & early 80s a balcony ticket in Chandigarh was Rs. 3. Unbelievable today.”
Among other leaders, Bachchan has followed RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his daughter Misa Bharti, JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury. He also follows the RJD’s official Twitter handle, NC’s Omar Abdullah and NCP’s Supriya Sule. Except Nitish Kumar, all leaders have been associated with the UPA government in the past in one way or the other.
As expected, social media users began speculating the reasons behind such a mass follow on Twitter by Bachchan, who’s been associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government in various capacities.
