A tweet by former Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken on Thursday confirmed the appointment of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as the new president of the party in the national capital.
Maken’s tweet read, “I congratulate Sheila Dikshit ji for becoming the president of the state Congress. I’ve had the opportunity to work and learn under her leadership as the cabinet secretary and cabinet minister in the past. I am confident that under Sheila ji’s leadership, we will be able to play the role of a strong opposition to both Modi and Kejriwal governments.

Addressing a news conference, PC Chacko, AICC in-charge of Delhi, announced the names of Devendra Yadav, Rajesh Lilothia and Haroon Yusuf as three working presidents.
The appointment of 80-year-old Sheila Dikshit will assume significance in light of this year’s Lok Sabha polls and the assembly elections in Delhi next year. The Congress may make the announcement about Dikshit’s new role today.
Dikshit, a popular Congress leader, had lost her government to Aam Aadmi Party in 2013. But since then, the party has been constantly gaining grounds in its erstwhile fiefdom.
