According to the NHK, the police now say that Yamagami told investigators he had a grudge against Abe and decided to kill him.
This page will be updated once more information emerges about his motive.
Yamagami had used an improvised gun to assassinate Abe, the longest-serving prime minister of Japan. Abe was holding a political event for this Sunday’s elections for the Upper House.
Abe, who encouraged people to have more children, was childless himself.
Meanwhile, police have found explosives from the home of Tetsuya Yamagami.
It’s still not clear about his family and whether Yamagami is married or has children.
