Mumbai Police on Tuesday acknowledged that it had received the police complaint, filed by the Delhi-based journalist, against a former Bollywood singer, Abhijeet.

The Mumbai cops have, however, not acted against the alleged criminal despite him committing sexual harassment against the female journalist, Swati Chaturvedi.

The singer, known for his disdain for women and minorities, had on Monday threatened of physical harm to www.jantakareporter.com’s editor-in-chief, Rifat Jawaid on ABP News during a live debate.
He had said, “‘Saale, tumhare jaison ko log chauraahe pe peetenge’”
His use of what many viewed as gutter language against the veteran journalist was widely condemned on social media. The dominating theme of social media conversation was that the singer had left himself utterly exposed with his upbringing coming for severe scrutiny.
Renowned actor and the lead character of popular TV series, Bhabi Ji Ghar Pe Hain, star Aasif Shaikh tweeted, “Your decency level said all. More power to you and pity such ppl.”

Other users too wasted no time in exposing the former singer’s hypocrisy. User Komal Indian posted a video, where Abhijeet was seen abusing India.
Latest fake nationalist hypocrite saying 'Ghatiya country hai hamaari' !
And now he wants others to say BMKJ !https://t.co/d6naKjGNeZ— कोमल 🙂 ?? (@Komal_Indian) July 5, 2016

Rifat had alleged on ABP News that the issue of nationalism was just a cover for ‘hypocrites of Abhijeet’s ilk.’ This was in reference to his viral video, where Abhijeet was seen insulting India and its independence by calling it ghatiya and ghulam.
Many wondered the consequences if the similar utterances were made by a member of India’s minority community.
This, according to analysts, explain why Mumbai Police has refused to act against Abhijeet as the cops deem him as ‘one of our own.’
Maharashtra is currently governed by the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and the police in the state is under control of the BJP-led government.
Here are some other social media reactions against Abhijeet’s ‘gutter language’:
We don’t need loud mouth hatemongers like @abhijeetsinger to give us certificates on nationalism. Well said @RifatJawaid @abpnewstv debate.
