Is Arnab Goswami envious because of American comedian’s attention to Navika Kumar?

American Indian comedian Hasan Minhaj has termed the Indian TV channel Times Now’s request for an interview with its editor Navika Kumar a ‘trap.’ Minhaj, also the host of popular Netflix show Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj, on Monday shared a tweet by Times Now desperately pleading him to appear on its channel.

Minhaj wrote, “This is a trap.” This was after Times Now, in a series of tweet, had written, “Dear @hasanminhaj, we are glad to know that you watch TIMES NOW’s @thenewshour at 9 PM with @NavikaKumar. We have taken your interest to be on our show seriously and would love to have you on our channel. Please confirm your availability. See you soon.”

Another tweet by Times Now read, “Dear @hasanminhaj, We saw your response to our invitation for @Navikakumar’s @thenewshour show. Since, you don’t want to sit on an ‘intense’ debate,we’ve a no holds barred show-Frankly Speaking; you might want to be our guest on this ‘not so intense’ show.”

The TV channel even posted the link of Navika Kaumar’s TV programme to impress upon Minhaj as it wrote, “@hasanminhaj, Here’s a link to one of the Frankly Speaking with @NavikaKumar episodes, to give you a brief idea of the ‘intensity’ of the show. Awaiting your confirmation. See you soon. Thank you.”

Soon after Minhaj termed Times Now’s desperate requests for an interview a ‘trap,’ many of his admirers in India too advised him to not appear on the Indian TV channel, known for being the flag-bearer of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Minhaj’s Netflix series on the just-concluded Indian elections was a great hit. He had routinely taken potshots at Navika Kumar’s style of moderating a debate show. Soon after the BJP won a historic landslide under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Times Now had extensively debated the role played by Minhaj in allegedly swinging the election in favour of the saffron party.

Minhaj played the clip of that broadcast on Times Bow in his last episode of the Patriot Act… show. He said, “So clearly, I didn’t need to go to Navika’s show. Navika’s show came to me.”

In the Times Now broadcast, several pro-BJP panelists appeared extremely angry with the American comedian of Indian origin for routinely mocking Modi. One guest on Times Now called him a ‘buffoon,’ while another said, “he (Minhaj) made Modi win.”

It will be interestingly to see how Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami reacts with rival Times Now receiving so much attention by a Netflix series of international repute. Twitterati are already tweeting about it.

Navika Kumar was Arnab Goswami’s colleague in Times Now when the latter was the channel’s editor-in-chief until November 2016. In 2017, Goswami launched Republic TV with the help of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
