President Pranab Mukherjee once again warned those hell-bent on forcing their narrow interpretation of nationalism on India’s minorities.

Speaking at a memorial lecture in honour of the former HRD Minister Late Arjun Singh in Delhi, President Mukherjee said that India of “1.3 billion people” couldn’t be turned into a fiction because of “whims and caprices” of a few individuals.

He said, “India is a multi-faceted nation of 1.3 billion people. This cannot be turned into fiction due to whims and caprices of a few individuals. There are divergent stands in public discourse. We may argue. But we cannot deny essential prevalence of multiplicity of opinion.”
