Australia register first win in World Cup after losing first two matches; beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets

Australia on Monday registered their first win in the ongoing cricket World Cup after losing their first two matches of the competition. Aussies beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in Lucknow.

Batting first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 209 in 43.3 overs with Kusal Perera playing a knock of 78 from 82 balls. Pathum Nissanka made 61 from 67 balls.

Adam Zampa was the tormentor-in-chief for Sri Lanka as he picked up four wickets for Australia.

In reply, Australia achieved the target by losing just five wickets with 14.4 overs to spare.

Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh made 58 and 52 runs respectively.

South Africa will play the Netherlands in the next match of the World Cup on Tuesday at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
