Comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi said on Wednesday that he planned to join the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of crucial Punjab elections.

He told ABP News, “After laughter challenge, now is the time for character test. I always wished to do something for the land I was born in. I decided to join AAP as I am an Aam Aadmi. I have seen their report card and was impressed with their style of practical functioning. I have received so much of love and affection from the people here and hence I realised this is the right time to do something for them.”

Ghuggi, though a popular name in Punjab, had shot to national fame after he took part in Star Plus’ The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.

He’s the second comedian from Punjab, who will be joining the AAP. In 2014, Bhagwant Mann had won Lok Sabha seat from Punjab’s Sangrur on AAP ticket.

Incidentally, Mann too had shot to national prominence after taking part in the same comedy reality show broadcast on Star Plus.

Ghuggi has acted in many Punjabi and Hindi movies.
