According to his media advisor, Singh sought the deployment of ’25 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and anti-drone gadgets for BSF for protection from Pak-backed terror forces’ ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Singh also reportedly urged Shah to ‘intervene to resolve farmer protest and repeal farm laws to prevent inimical forces from exploiting their anger.’ “Cites social, economic & security implications of prolonged farmers’ agitation,” his advisor added.

“While #FarmerProtest has so far been largely peaceful, one can sense rising tempers, especially as Punjab moves towards elections in early 2022. There’s urgent need to review & repeal the #FarmLaws’,” Singh reportedly told Shah.

In reference to his meeting with Sonia Gandhi, the Punjab CM had said, “Met @INCIndia president #SoniaGandhi ji in Delhi this evening to discuss various state related issues. Spent an extremely satisfying one hour with her.”

According to a report by NDTV, Sonia Gandhi reportedly stressed on the need for both Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu to work together ahead of the assembly polls in the state.

Sidhu, who was recently appointed the Punjab Congress chief, took to Twitter to launch another round of attack on the Amarinder Singh government. In a series of tweets , he asked why the state government had not acted against Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia and others for their alleged involvement in the 2018 drugs trafficking case.

“No substantial order has been passed by Hon’ble Court in 2.5 years on this matter that impacts lives of Punjab’s Youth. Govt must move plea for preponement of opening of sealed reports to the earliest taking case against Majithia to a logical conclusion, punishing the guilty.”

His subsequent tweet read, “Punishing culprits behind Drug trade is Congress’s priority under 18-Point Agenda. What is the action taken on Majithia? While Govt seeks extradition of NRIs linked to the same case. If further delayed will bring resolution in Punjab Vidhan Sabha for making the Reports Public.”

Punjab goes to polls in February next years and the Congress would be aiming to repeat its 2017 performance when the party swept the polls.
