The 38-year-old Indian, who won an Olympic bronze medal in 2012 in London, defeated Garcia 4-1. The Indian boxer would now face the third-seed Colombian medallist Ingrit Valencia, who had a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in Rio, four years ago.

India is hoping that Mary Kom, mother of four, still has in her to win another medal for the country.

Earlier on Sunday, Manika Batra had pulled off a stunning win in table tennis despite trailing the match 0-2.
