BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has hit out at Indian army chief General MM Naravane for his reported comments that the Indian army intended to settle the border dispute with China through talks.
Reacting to the Indian army chief’s comments, Swamy said, “He should say : “Indian army ready and equipped to evict the PLA, but orders must come from our government”. Army Commanders should not say “settling through talks” . That is sissy talk which will demoralise the army and encourage the enemy.”
Speaking at a symposium, General MM Naravane had said there had been no violations along the LoC since India Pakistan agreed for a ceasefire. “We have recently entered into a ceasefire understanding” with their Army in February “and since then there has been no exchange of fire on an otherwise active Line of Control”. This, he stated, “bodes well for the future,” Indian Express had quoted Naravane as saying.
About China, the Indian army chief had said, “With China too, there have been positive developments along the Line of Actual Control, an area where both countries have differing perceptions on the alignment of the land borders. This has led to disengagement of troops in eastern Ladakh. We have recently concluded the 11th round of Corps Commander level talks between the two armies and we hope to settle our other border through further negotiations.”

China is reported to have occupied a huge swathe of the Indian land in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. At least 20 Indian soldiers including one Lt. Colonel-rank officer were brutally murdered by the Chinese soldiers during a scuffle last year. The Indian government has had to face widespread condemnation for its weak response to China even in the face of 20 soldiers’ death.
