Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has disapproved of the demand by a party functionary to omit the first word of Mumbai’s iconic Karachi Sweets. The video of Shiv Sena functionary Nitin Nandgaokar forcing the owner of the iconic shop in Bandra West to cover the word ‘Karachi’ with newspapers had gone viral on social media.
Reacting to the news, Raut tweeted, “Karachi bakery and karachi sweets have been in mumbai since last 60 years. They have nothing to do with Pakistan . It makes no sense to ask for changing their names now.Demand for changing their name is not shivsena’s official stance.”

Nandgaokar was seen threatening the shop owner to change the name saying that he had no business in naming his shop after a Pakistani city. The shopkeeper said that this was due to the fact that he migrated from Karachi during the partition in 1947. But, his justification did not impress the Shiv Sena functionary, who ordered him to change the name to anything Marathi within seven days.
