BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subtamanian Swamy on Saturday sensationally alleged that Congress President Rahul Gandhi may have poisoned him using a needle during his impromptu hug in the parliament.
Swamy, a known opponent of Rahul and his family, tweeted, “Namo (PM Modi) should not have allowed Buddhu (fool) to hug him. Russians and North Koreans use the embrace technique to stick a poised (sic) needle. I think Namo should immediately go for a medical check to see if he has any microscopic puncture like Sunanda had on her hand.”

This was in response to Rahul ending his parliament speech with a surprise hug of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. His hug had brought the much-needed smile on the faces of the BJP MPs and ministers in the parliament. However, the same group of lawmakers began to attack Rahul for ‘childish’ behaviour as soon as they realised that the Congress president may have scored a crucial political point over Modi.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan chided Rahul for his wink calling it in contravention of the established parliamentary decorum. Soon after his famous hug and return to his seat, Rahul was seen winking at someone. This infuriated the members of the treasury as they felt suspect that Rahul hugging Modi was nicely choreographed.
However, on social media, users cutting across the political affiliations began to post jokes on Rahul’s hug and wink.
Rahul: “Modiji, why can’t you look me in the eye?”
Modi: “Because beta, if I do, you will wink at me.”— Minhaz Merchant (@MinhazMerchant) July 21, 2018
Rahul Gandhi’s hug was his PR team, his wink was he being himself. Notice the difference.

Many were also quick to draw a parallel with the famous wink by Malayalam actor Priya Prakash Varrier, whose wink in the song Manikya Malarayi Poovi had left Indians spellbound. A Muslim group had even issued fatwa while demanding a ban on her song.
Priya’s famous wink had even become a big talking point after the Mumbai Police decided to use her winking photo to push their message on safe driving. Reacting to Rahul’s wink, Priya said that she was very happy that the trend started by her had reached the parliament and she was very happy that Rahul winked at the prime minister.
