A bank has sacked its assistant manager after he justified the gang-rape and murder of 8-year-old Asifa in Jammau and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
Photo: TwitterKotak Mahindra Bank sacked its assistant manager in Kerala’s Kochi branch, Vishnu Nandakumar, after he justified Asifa’s gang-rape and murder through a social media post. Nandakumar had allegedly written, “Good that she was killed at this age itself. Else, she would have grown up and returned throwing bombs in India.”
This evoked anger on social media platforms with users tagging Kotak Mahindra demanding action against its employee. This even caused hashtag #Dismiss_your_manager to trend on Twitter. Many even threatened to close their accounts with the bank if it did not take punitive action against Nandakumar.
Some even posted a photo of Nandakumar present in a BJP rally and RSS shakha training.

@KotakBankLtd
You should take necessary action against him. He doesn’t have human feelings . Of course he have the right to point out his views on fb but this is can’t be justified . #JusticeforAsifa #dismiss_your_manager pic.twitter.com/jeyD8Q6eyu— Abdulnazer Kachadi (@ullattukattil) April 13, 2018
Faced with considerable outrage, the bank issued a statement announcing that Nandakumar had been dismissed from his job. It said, “We have terminated Vishnu Nandakumar from the services of the bank on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 for poor performance. It is extremely disheartening to see such comments being made in the aftermath of such tragedy by anyone including an ex-employee. We strongly condemn this statement.”
Kotak Mahindra’s decision earned the bank instant plaudits with many applauding it for keeping its ‘conscience’ alive.
