Hindutva fanatics may have targetted a school in Madhya Pardesh after a child performed a dance at the ghoomar song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. But, what’s skipped the attention of a large section of media is how the a dance was performed on the same song in Gujarat earlier this week to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu.

On 17 January, right-wing fanatics had vandalised the school in Madhya Pradesh after a child was reported to have performed a dance on the Padmaavat’s song.
The state’s BJP’s home minister, Bhoopendra Singh, had told ANI, “MP govt banned #Padmaavat, people shouldn’t even play songs of it. If someone plays a banned song, it must be reported to police and not take matter in your own hands. Action to be taken against culprits.”

On Thursday, the Supreme Court had struck down the ban imposed on the Padmaavat’s release in four BJP-governed states namely Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana.
As expected, social media users have been quick to slam the saffron party for its double-standard on the issue.
