PV Sindhu loses to Nozomi in Okuhara World Badminton Championships final

India’s Olympic 2016 silver medallist PV Sindhu fought well in the pulsating women’s singles final of the World Badminton Championships in Glasgow before going down to Japanese seventh seed Nozomi Okuhara 19-21, 22-20, 20-22. The match lasted for hour and 50 minutes.

It was Sindhu’s third medal at the World Championships, with a bronze apiece from the 2013 and 2014 editions in her bag.

Badminton Association of India has announced 10 lakh for Sindhu and Rs 5 lakh for Saina Nehwal, said the BAI president, Himanta B Sarma.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised ace shuttler PV Sindhu for her performance.

“Well played @Pvsindhu1! We are proud of your game at the @2017BWC finals. Congratulations,” the prime minister tweeted.

Even though Sindhu lost in the final, it was a historic edition for India, as for the first time countrys shuttler are returning with two medals. Saina Nehwal had won a bronze yesterday after losing her semifinal.
