A lift’s free-fall from the 14th floor in a housing society in Greater Noida has left a 35-year-old woman injured, while the other woman miraculously survived the accident unhurt.
The accident took place on Tuesday in Gaur Saundaryam residential society in Greater Noida West. The CCTV video installed inside the lift shows two women boarding the lift at the 14th floor. Within seconds of the lift’s doors shutting, it comes to a grinding halt with a thud sound.
The 35-year-old woman, seen in the right corner of the lift, is seen crying in pain while holding her legs. She remains in pain for at least two minutes, when the doors open and she barely manages to drag herself out of the lift.
Apparently, the lift had free-fallen from the 14th floor but luckily stopped at the seventh floor due to electricity outage. An alert resident opened the doors at the seventh floor allowing the women to come out. The 35-year-old woman has suffered multiple fractures in her leg.
“We heard loud cries and the alarm of the lift ringing, following which we rushed to see what happened. We found the lift struck on the 7th floor of the building,” a resident was quoted by DNA website.
Akhilesh Tripathi, Station House officer of Bisrakh Police station told the paper that the police had no information of the incident and if approached, ‘we shall take necessary action.’
The residents of the society have accused the builder of negligence, but no police complaint has been filed yet.
