Delhi Police on Friday arrested Youtuber known as Crazy Sumit, who had hit the headlines after his molestation video went viral on social media platforms.
In the video, the youth was seen kissing random girls in the name of pranks. Faced with widespread anger the Youtuber had posted an apology video.
“The video has come to Delhi Police’s notice through media. We have started the initial technical inquiry. This obscene video is available on Facebook and Youtube links and we are probing this,” said Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police Spokesperson and Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) was quoted by News 18.
The youth reportedly made shocking revelations during the police interrogation claiming that the ‘victim’ girls in the video were part of his crew team.
Cops, however, are likely to prosecute him regardless of his new claims about the victims in the video.
A case was registered against him on 9 January for outraging modesty of women and publishing obscene material.
Dependra Pathak, joint commissioner of police (Southwest) and Delhi Police spokesperson, said a case under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and 67 IT Act (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) has been registered against Sumit Verma, whose YouTube channel goes by the title ‘The Crazy Sumit’.
The video in question was apparantely shot in Connaught Place. It drew criticism and provoked public outrage in wake of mass molestation incident in Bengaluru and similar incidents in New Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on New Year’s night.
The video has been taken down following criticism on social media.
