Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Sunday claimed that CPI’s Kanhaiya Kumar will campaign for him in Bhopal against the terror-accused and BJP’s candidate Pragya Thakur. Pragya Thakur, also revered as a sadhvi (saint), is the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts and is currently out on bail.
Singh, according to news agency PTI, said that Kanhaiya will join him in Bhopal on 8 and 9 May to campaign for him. Bhopal goes to polls on 12 May in the sixth phase of the elections.
Kanhaiya, who is contesting from Begusarai as the CPI candidate against the BJP’s Giriraj Singh and Tanweer Hassan of the RJD, spoke to Janta Ka Reporter’s Rifat Jawaid exclusively at his house on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls in his constituency. When asked to react to Singh’s statement, Kanhaiya said smilingly, “Let me now focus on my own campaigning.”
In his interview to Rifat Jawaid, Kumar also said that this election was about the truth of Begusarai against the lies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The young CPI leader, who shot to fame with student politics in the JNU, said that he was grateful to celebrities, who had travelled to Begusarai to campaign for him.
Several celebrities such as lyricist Javed Akhtar, actor Prakash Raj, MLA Jignesh Mevani, Kanhaiya’s former JNU colleague Shehla Rashid and comedian Kunal Kamra had travelled to Begusarai to campaign for him.
