Union minister Nitin Gadkari’s daughter got married at a ceremony in Nagpur attended by a host of dignitaries, including Central ministers Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu, BJP president Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Gadkari’s daughter Ketki, youngest of his three children, tied the knot with Aditya Kaskhedikar, who works with Facebook in the US.
Among the VVIPs who attended the wedding were Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, MNS president Raj Thackeray, Union ministers Maneka Gandhi, Prakash Javadekar, Hansraj Ahir and Piyush Goyal, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and former Aviation minister and senior NCP leader Praful Patel.
While Rajnath and Amit Shah came on Sunday morning, Fadnavis and others landed here last night. Maharashtra ministers Chandrakant Dada Patil, Subhash Deshmukh, Pankaja Munde, Girish Mahajan, Sadabhau Khotkar and Girish Deshmukh were also present on the occasion. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has two sons- Nikhil and Sarang.
The wedding had become a key topic of social media conversation in the wake of the demonetisation announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Modi government had set a limit of Rs 2.5 lakh withdrawal limit for families with weddings with people complaining of no access to their hard-earned money because of the restrictions imposed by the Centre.
The report of 50 chartered planes being employed to ferry VVIP guests to the wedding venue had elicited huge social media backlash. The wedding also became controversial because of PM Modi’s claim that he was a fakir (beggar). Many social media users and his detractors mocked his claim citing the planned expensive wedding of the prime minister’s key cabinet colleague’s daughter.
