The controversial Tamil Nadu unit President Tamilisai Soundararjan is back being in news and this time for her audacious attempt to nominate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize. And this is not an April Fool joke.
Soundarajan issued a press release nominating Modi for the coveted global prize for launching the ‘world’s largest’ health scheme.
The release (read below), issued by her, read, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for launching the world’s largest health care scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana- Ayushman Bharat by Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan…”
The release further added that the ‘path-breaking initiative’ of the ‘visionary’ Prime Minister, launched on Sunday, will transform the lives of millions of people, especially the underprivileged and vulnerable.
“The last date for Nomination for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year. University Professors and Members of Parliament among others can also nominate our Prime Minister,” it added.
Her husband, Professor Dr P Soundarajan, Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Nephrology at a private university, has also nominated PM Modi for Nobel.
PM Modi rolled out the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)-Ayushman Bharat, and had termed it a ‘game-changer initiative to serve the poor,’ reported PTI.
It was the ‘biggest’ government-sponsored healthcare scheme in the world, he had said, adding ‘the number of beneficiaries is almost equal to the population of Canada, Mexico and the US taken together.’
Reacting to the development, Brajesh Kalappa of the Congress tweeted, “Today is 24th September, 2018. Not 1st April, 2018. I must remind you that this is NOT A PRACTICAL JOKE!!”

Soundarajan’s attempt has become a butt of joke on social media. Journalist Tushar Swarup wrote, “The career of many stand up comedians is in danger from various BJP leaders.” Journalist Prashant Kumar, who first posted the press release, wrote, “Hahahaha! Kapil Sharma has just announced retirement, giving his baton to this BJP neta in Tamil Nadu.”
