Odisha teenager, Ananya Nanda on Sunday night walked away with the coveted trophy of second season of Indian Idol Junior by defeating Assam’s Nahid Afrin and Tamil Nadu’s Nithyashree Venkataramanan.
In an all girls final, Ananya bagged the most number of audience votes as well as winning judges’ appreciation to win this prestigious trophy, which may open host of singing opportunities in Bollywood.
The 14-year-old singer says she is a huge fan of Shreya Ghoshal and considers veteran music composer Anandji of the Kalyanji-Anandji duo as her lucky charm.
The grand finale of this singing reality show broadcast on Sony Entertainment had three judges Sonakshi Sinha, Vishal Dadlani and Kapil Sharma entertaining and audience. Salim Marchant, the third permanent judge on the show, had to fly out to America and couldn’t make it to the finals.
Kapil Sharma arrived in the show as a special guest and also to promote his debut Hindi movie Kis Kisko Pyar Karoon. A singer himself, the popular stand-up comedian also joined the finalists to sing few hit numbers.
Among other guests, the show also welcomed Sonakshi’s dad, Shatrughan Sinha briefly during the programme.
Ananya, who received a cash award of Rs 10 lakh along with the winners’ trophy, appears to have become a huge star back home.
Among those who have congratulated her on this splendid win were the state’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and senior BJD leader and Loksabha MP, Bijyant Panda.
Patnaik said that her performance had made Odia proud, while Panda tweeted saying, “This very talented young lady from Odisha now makes a breakthrough on a big national platform! Congrats.”
