Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Friday changed his stance on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation by calling it a monumental mismanagement.
Speaking at a book launch function of former finance minister, P Chidambaram, he said, “Three months after demonetisation announcement there are diversion attempts from black money to cashless. I am in agreement with Dr Manmohan Singh; the demonetisation was indeed a monumental mismanagement.”
Kumar also wondered on how much black money was unearthed or fake notes removed from the market through Modi’s demonetisation announcement adding that it was laughable to suggest that he will go with the BJP.
Modi, while announcing the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on 8 November, had said that the move was to curb black money in the system.
His comments assume significance because he was one of the few non-BJP politicians, who had supported Modi on note ban.
