Veteran actor Kamal Haasan on Monday mocked the AIADMK merger by saying that after ‘Gandhi cap’ people of Tamil Nadu now had ‘clown’s cap.’
Minutes after the two AIADMK factions merged, Haasan tweeted in Tamil, “Gandhi cap, Saffron cap, Kashmir cap, now a clown cap on the head of Tamilians. Is this enough, or do you want more? Rise up Tamizha.” The actor went on to accuse the AIADMK of indulging in a ‘drama of splitting and now uniting.’

The actor has been sharply critical of the AIADMK government in the state accusing it of doing little in checking crime and corruption. On Independence Day, Haasan released a video message asking why Tamilians shouldn’t ask for the resignation of Chief Minister E Palaniswami in light of allegations of corruption in his government.
AIADMK factions led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and rebel leader O Panneerselvam came together today after a bitter split about six months ago.
A smiling K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam shook hands signifying the formal merger of both the factions at the party headquarters in Chennai, PTI reported. According to sources, Panneerselvam will be the new deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu. VK Sasikala, the party chief, who’s currently serving jail sentence in Bengaluru, may also be expelled from the party.
