India on Thursday defeated South Africa by 113 runs in the first Test match of the series, taking 1-0 lead in the series.
South Africa needed 305 runs to win the match, but the hosts were bowled out for 191. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami shared three wickets each for India, while Mohammad Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets each.
Shami, who picked up five wickets in the first innings, finished the match with an impressive eight-wicket haul.
Skipper Dean Elgar was the top scorer for South Africa in the second innings.
